92 PEOPLE ARE ARRESTED IN MAY FOR POSSESSING DANGEROUS WEAPONS IN MALAYSIA

Police arrested 92 people in the month of May this year for possessing dangerous weapons, in a continuous effort by the police to combat snatch thefts and robberies around the Golden Triangle area near here.
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Zainuddin Ahmad said that the suspects were arrested for carrying dangerous weapons such as knives, brass knuckles, batons, cutters, a fake gun and even a samurai sword.
"The arrests were made in a month-long Ops Cantas operation.
"Anyone deemed suspicious was checked on the spot for any weapon on them," he added.
ACP Zainuddin said that police have toughened their stance on possession of dangerous weapons to prevent harm on other people.
"Possessing weapons is illegal and those found guilty of this offence could face a jail sentence not exceeding two years," he added.
Most of those arrested had no previous criminal records.
Another 38 suspects were detained for various offences including robbery, thefts, break-ins and voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons.
ACP Zainuddin explained that in May alone, the Dang Wangi police headquarters received five reports on thieves breaking into cars using spark plugs to break car windows.
"The criminals would usually prey on their victims as they stopped at traffic lights.
"They would break the glass window with a spark plug and take off with the items, especially bags, placed on the passenger seat," he added.
ACP Zainuddin advised the public to keep their belongings in a safe spot in the car to avoid being victims of robbery.
With these arrests, the Dang Wangi police headquarters have solved 62% of their cases.
