Police have arrested a Bangladeshi, believed to be the father of the dead baby found in a ravine in Genting Highlands.
The discovery led to the uncovering of a maid-for-sex syndicate six days ago.
The man in his 30s is believed to have fathered the child when he raped one of the 29 Indonesian women confined by the syndicate's leader, who is suspected of throwing the baby into the 70m-deep ravine.
Shah Alam district deputy police chief Supt Ruslan Abdullah said acting on a tip-off and information from the syndicate's leader and the baby's mother, the suspect was nabbed while he was in Klang on Thursday.
“A two-week remand order was obtained for the Bangladeshi,” Ruslan said.
“The syndicate leader's wife, arrested on Tuesday together with her husband, has been freed on bail after we found the baby's remains at KM36 of the Genting Highlands-KL road,” Ruslan said, saying there was no evidence directly connecting her to her husband’s actions.
“Last night, the Shah Alam district police Anti-Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies (D7) team rescued 11 more Indonesian women involved in the case.
“Seven were found near the Datuk Dagang mosque in Kampung Jawa, Klang, while the other four were picked up at one of the houses where they had been confined in USJ 2, Subang Jaya,” said Ruslan.
Police rescued six women on Monday and five more yesterday.
Ruslan said a post-mortem was conducted on the baby yesterday but little information could be gathered as the body was highly decomposed.
