A man in his 30s has died after finishing a half marathon event.
Police were called just after midday today when the man collapsed at the finish line of the Southend Half Marathon at Shoeburyness.
He was taken to a medical tent at the event organised by the Haven's Hospice Group, where staff tried to revive him.
There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be prepared for the coroner, police said.
Temperatures reached as high as 25 degrees as much of the country enjoyed a warm summer's day on Sunday.
The forecast for Shoeburyness was for clear skies, sunshine and temperatures of up to 22 degrees.
In a statement on their wesbite, Haven's Hospice wrote: "The male runner collapsed at the finish line and treatment was given immediately by the on-site medic team, then transferred to the medical tent where he was treated by a senior doctor, but he sadly died a short while afterwards. His next of kin have been informed.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this incredibly sad time."
