A police sergeant was sentenced to 15 years' jail and ordered to receive eight strokes of the cane for raping a 14-year-old minor, five years ago.
Mahmad Abidin, 57, who was also a former police station chief was found guilty by Sessions Court Judge Mohd Yusoff Yunos, who held that the prosecution had succeeded in proving its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Mahmad committed the offence at the Binjai police station here at 2.30pm on Oct 15, 2009.
The court granted a stay of the sentence pending appeal and imposed a bail of RM15,000 with one surety.
Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Salam Yusof represented the prosecution while counsel Datuk Sukri Mohamed defended Mahmad.
